Plot that may see Ruto out of 2022 race
A
plot that will wrestle Deputy President William Ruto out of the 2022 race has
been hatched.
Opposition
politicians and some in Jubilee opposed to DP are ganging up. This is evident
by the current jostling by politicians to form alliances ahead of the 2022
General Elections.
The
referendum seem to be the main factor in ensuring that Ruto is sidelined.Ruto
has opposed the amendment of the constitution saying it was a way of creating
positions for some politicians.
As hinted
by Siaya Senator James Orengo during President Uhuru Kenyatta visit to Nyanza
recently, they are planning to create a position of a prime minister.
“We
will make you a Prime Minister if you endorse Raila Odinga as president in
2022.And that is why the idea of a referendum to change the nature of constitution
which allows winner takes it all has come,”Orengo said.
In
this arrangement, Uhuru will become Prime Minister, Raila to be the president
while Mombasa Governor to become Deputy President as Baringo Senator Gideon Moi
takes the Deputy Prime Minister post.
Uhuru
has also hinted that he has no issue with the referendum owing to the famous
handshake with Raila.
During
Ruto’s tour of western recently, he said referendum was a day dream prompting
some leaders to respond.
Senator
Moses Wetangula whom initially opposed the idea seems to have danced to the
tune of going for a referendum.
“Those
opposed to the idea should know that they will be phased out in politics. There
issues that need to be addressed in the constitution for inclusivity,”Wetangula
said.
The
referendum will be a determining factor for the 2022 political alliances and
should Ruto oppose it, then he will be a lone ranger owing to current standing.
He
will have to wittily work on his political cards to ensure that he will not lose a grip on country’s politics.
