Carry your own cross,Rugut tells athletes
Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya boss Kiplimo Rugut has blamed individual athletes over the doping menace in the country.
According to Rugut, relevant authorities put in place by the government to tame doping have done great.
He said athletes have been sensitized on the effects of doping, what they need to do in case they fall sick and in need of medication however still athletes were testing positive.
Rugut hinted that substances like EPO needs injection meaning athletes who have tested positive of the banned substance were taking their own step to have them in their bodies.
"It is very saddening that we are doing enough in taming doping but we are still getting some athletes testing positive. This means the act is deliberate on the part of athletes"Rugut said.
While speaking during the inaugural conference on Nutrition for Clean Sport at Baraton in Nandi,Rugut said some athletes have chosen to do wrong adding that they will carry their own cross.
Nandi Deputy Governor Yulita Cheruiyot said Kenyans are endowed with natural talent which only needs training and good nutrition.
"Our athletes are talented and they don't need to use any substance to boost their performances but they only need good diet and training,"She said.
High profile Kenyan athletes have recently tested positive for blood boosters.
Olympic 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop is the latest athlete to be banned after failing an out of competition doping test.
