See what happened to Governor Sang yesterday when he led public to repossess grabbed land
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang yesterday led members of the public in repossessing public grabbed land in Matema village in the county.
The land which had some developments including a cattle dip has been grabbed and planted tea by individuals.
According to Sang, he was acting on complaints by the community which said they had been oppressed following the grabbing of the land.
The land was meant for public utilities.
However there was drama at the land after PA to former minister Henry Kosgei forcefully took ignition key for one of the county bargo meant to clear the area to pave way for the construction of the new cattle dip.
Angry residents almost roughed up the man who had already given the key to a driver to Allan Kosgei but had fled away.
But after Sang gave out an ultimatum for the key to be returned, Allan's driver had to secretly comeback from his hideout and handed over the key.
Sang said he will continue repossessing public land that cartels have grabbed.
Here is what he posted on his Facebook page.
"Acting on the complaints from the public and having established ownership of the land by county in trust of the public, today I led the community in the recovery of four acres of land, reserved for the establishment of public utilities. Already the community had built Cheburet Cattle Dip in Matema village, Kapsimatwo but the land was forcefully taken away and their dip destroyed. This has negatively affected community's economic development who have continued to suffer in the hands of few individuals who have denied them their rightful ownership of their land."read part of his post.
"I want to assure the people of Nandi that we will continue repossessing all the parcels of land that belong to the public in our county.God Bless Nandi."
Police who had been stationed on the land only watched the unfolding after the public defied an attempt to block them.
