Two Northrift Governors in a fight
Two Northrift Governors have been embroiled in war of words over the running of county affairs.
The duoWest Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo and his predecessor Simon Kachapin have continued to point fingers at each other.
Senate oversight committeesought explanations from Lonyangapuo on how over Sh100m was spent.
The suspicious withdrawals were made from various accounts in one month by finance officers in Kachapin’s administration.
Lonyangapuo said Kachapin is said to have withdrawn Sh114 million from the county coffers a few days to the August 8, 2017 General Election. However, the Auditor General's report shows Sh112 million was withdrawn. The transaction was revealed by Auditor General Edward Ouko in his 2017-18 financial year report.
But the incumbent told Kachapin to carry his own cross over audit queries.
He said Kachapin has been claiming of witch hunt in his woes when it was clear that he messed up in the previous administration.
“I urge residents to give me time to work because I inherited a rotten government. That time I was a senator. Kachapin should stop blaming the finance staff,” he said.
Kachapin a former Governor of West Pokot accused Lonyangapuo of witch-hunt saying he money in question was accounted for and blamed the current administration of giving false information and double accounting.
“There is no truth in the report. Let them engage financial experts to look at the cash book and reconciliatory accounts and verify the facts. This is witch-hunt," Kachapin said.
Kachapin told Lonyangapuo to focus on services, not politics and comedy.
