The country was once again shocked by the death of Bomet Governor Dr.Joyce Laboso.
Laboso succumbed to cancer on Monday at Nairobi Hospital.Several leaders led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto mourn her.
They described her as a visionary leader and an icon of women leadership.
Here are 5 facts about Joyce Laboso.
1.She was a high school teacher.
Joyce Cherono Laboso was High school teacher at Kipsigis girls’ high school teaching French between 1985 and 1989.
2.She was a university lecturer.
Laboso lecturer at Egerton University and
Farrow House Education
Center, Hull, United Kingdom from 2000 to 2008 before joining politics.
3.She succeed her sister Lorna Laboso as Sotik MP.
Laboso succeeded her sister Lorna Laboso as Sotik MP.Lorna died in a plane crash on June 10,2008 necessitating a by-election in which she beat other candidates.She was again elected for the second time in 2013 as a member of parliament.
4.She was married to Nyanza but elected in her native home as a leader.
Laboso was came from Bomet and got married to Dr.Edwin Abonyo who, is a former manager with Finlays Kericho.Despite this, she was elected as an MP and area Governor defying all odds.Up to her demise, Laboso was the vice chairperson of theour Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB).
5.She was the first female Governor in Kenya
Laboso was among the Pioneer female Governors in Kenya.Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Laboso were the only female Governors elected in the country in the 2017 General elections.
