Obiri wins Beach to Beacon 10km race
Two time Olympic 5000m champion Hellen Obiri of Kenya secured victory at the Beach to Beacon 10km race on Saturday.
Obiri took the top spot in the women’s event in a time of 31.37 minutes.
The nail biting race saw Ethiopia's Fotyen Tesfay finished second in 31.38 minutes while Keira D’Amato of the USA took third place with a time of 31.58 minutes.
Kenya’s Vicoty Chepng'eno and her compatriot Edna Ngeringwony Kiplagat, who clocked 31.59 and 32.23 to complete the top five women finishers.
In the men’s competition,Ethiopia’s Addisu Yihune won the race in a time of 27.56 while Conner Mantz of the USA finished closely behind securing second place with a time of 27.58.
Ethiopia’s Muktar Edris claimed the third spot, finishing the race in 28.06 to round out the podium places.
Kenya’s Edwin Kurgat ran 28.15 to secure fourth place, while Abbabiya Simbassa of the USA rounded out the top five finishers with a time of 28.19.
