Marakwet West residents' message to Ruto after their MP voted NO on Gachagua impeachment

Marakwet West residents demands equal treat from Ruto government

Residents of Marakwet West have raised concerns about being marginalized by both the National and County governments.

Speaking at Cheptongei today, the Marakwet West Council of Elders and local professionals expressed their frustration over what they described as government neglect, despite their consistent political support from the Moi regime to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Newton Cherwon, noted that the region has historically backed past governments, yet has not been adequately considered for key appointments.

“We have consistently supported previous administrations, but we have not reaped any tangible benefits,” Cherwon stated.

He further pointed out that many professionals from the area have been overlooked while other regions have enjoyed the fruits of government inclusion.

The residents are now calling on the government to address their concerns, warning that they may reconsider their political direction if the neglect continues.

This comes after Marakwet West MP, Timothy Kipchumba, voted against the motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the National Assembly. Kipchumba argued that there were more pressing issues facing Kenyans that required immediate attention, and that the impeachment of the Deputy President was not a priority.
