MP Lomenen condemn killing of county officials
Turkana
South MP James Lomenen condemned the killing of two county officials
by suspected Pokot bandits on Wednesday.
According
to Turkana county commissioner Seif Matata, two county officials Mark Erukudi
who was the Turkana South Constituency Development manager and environment
officer Maxwell Lokol were shot dead while on a motorbike.
They
were heading to Nakwamoru from Kapelibok.
“The
two were shot dead by suspected bandits from neighboring county while they were
heading to Nakwamoru,”He said.
He said the suspected bandits
retaliated to attacks after a seven-year-old boy was shot dead at Takaywa
by armed cattle rustlers.
The
rustlers stole an unknown number of cattle on Wednesday morning.
While condemning the killings, Lomenen
called on the two communities to shun cattle rustling.
He
said they have planned for meetings between Pokot and Turkana leaders on how to
reach peace amongst the two communities.
“Peace
is paramount for any development in our region and we as leaders are going to
meet to plan for a ceasefire. We should remain united and forge forward
together in developing the region,”Lomenen said.
The
region has witnessed incessant cattle rustling which has led to loss of lives
and destruction of property.
Several
peace efforts and sensitization of the communities have been done however it
has bore little fruits.
