New University for Baringo County

Baringo
County will soon get a new university, leaders have said.
The
region which is the home for the former president Daniel Moi has no operational
university.
While
speaking, Governor Stanley Kiptis said Moi Teachers Training College Seretunin
will be converted into a university.
The
leaders and residents in the region want a university to be established in the
region saying it is part of the factors effecting economic growth.
“We
have already discussed with my colleague leaders and identified Moi TTC as the
most viable place and plans are underway to have it converted into a university,”
Kiptis said.
According to Prof.Paul Chepkuto, “The
county enjoyed presidential status for 24 years but it is very embarrassing
that we don’t have evne a s ingle university.The establishment of such institution
should be fast-tracked,”He said.
Baringo
North MP William Cheptumo said the university should be ready by next year.
Previously
Senator Gideon Moi had proposed it to be moved to a 1,000 acre-piece of land
owned by Egerton University but the leaders rejected it saying it was far from
Kabarnet town which is the county’s headquarters.
