New University for Baringo County

Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis

Baringo County will soon get a new university, leaders have said.
The region which is the home for the former president Daniel Moi has no operational university.
While speaking, Governor Stanley Kiptis said Moi Teachers Training College Seretunin will be converted into a university.
The leaders and residents in the region want a university to be established in the region saying it is part of the factors effecting economic growth.
“We have already discussed with my colleague leaders and identified Moi TTC as the most viable place and plans are underway to have it converted into a university,” Kiptis said.
According to Prof.Paul Chepkuto, “The county enjoyed presidential status for 24 years but it is very embarrassing that we don’t have evne a s ingle university. The establishment of such institution should be fast-tracked,”He said.
Baringo North MP William Cheptumo said the university should be ready by next year.
Previously Senator Gideon Moi had proposed it to be moved to a 1,000 acre-piece of land owned by Egerton University but the leaders rejected it saying it was far from Kabarnet town which is the county’s headquarters.
