Four Northrift CECs face impeachment
The County Assembly is planning to impeach four County Executive Members over what they say gross misconduct.
The four CECs in Governor George Natembeya's cabinet are facing the challenge after Trans Nzoia County Assembly MCAs signed a motion to impeach them.
The 27 out of 33 Members of the County Assembly have jointly initiated a motion to impeach four members of Natembeya's executive team.
This motion is unfolding against the backdrop of a highly publicized feud between Natembeya and his Deputy, Philomena Kapkory, who has consistently voiced concerns about alleged intimidation by Natembeya's associates within the county.
Simultaneously, the MCAs have leveled various accusations against the four executive members marked for impeachment, alleging graft, insubordination, and misguided financial counsel to the Governor, among other grievances.
The motion to oust these officials has been filed by James Mwangi of Bidii ward, Boniface Cheloti of Saboti, Edwin Koech of Cherangany/Suwerwa, and Minority leader Erick Wafula of Hospital ward.
In the motion, signed by Speaker Andrew Wanyonyi, the MCAs demand that Governor Natembeya dismiss CECs Jackson Wamuyu (Public Works, Transport, and Energy), Boniface Wanyonyi (Finance), Stanely Kirui (Trade), and County Secretary Truphosa Amere, citing gross misconduct.
Furthermore, the four are accused of contravening constitutional principles concerning good governance, integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Governor Natembeya has labeled this move as a politically motivated witch hunt, with the intention of obstructing and stifling his administration's efforts.
