Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has downplayed the emphasis on Luyha unity, instead urging community leaders to prioritize economic empowerment in the Western region.
Speaking at an event in Tongaren, Bungoma county, Natembeya expressed his concerns about leaders focusing solely on political unity while neglecting the economic challenges faced by the region.
He emphasized that poverty had significantly impacted the Mulembe nation's livelihoods and stressed the importance of addressing economic issues before pursuing political unity.
According to the governor, poverty cannot be the foundation for unity, and it is essential for leaders to uplift the people economically to achieve political cohesion.
He stated, "We, as leaders, must rise to the occasion and liberate our people from the grip of poverty so that we can unite from a position of strength. Impoverished individuals are more susceptible to manipulation, so improving their financial well-being is a prerequisite for achieving political unity
