Raila-led ODM Party meeting that may save Gachagua
The outcome of the ODM party decision-making organ three-day retreat in Mombasa will either save or sent home Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
DP Gachagua was impeached on Tuesday
by the National Assembly with 281 MPs and his case is set to be heard by the Senate
next week.
Opposition chief Raila Odinga is currently
in Mombasa chairing the retreat for the ODM National Executive meeting which
started on Friday.
Allies of the impeached DP have blamed
the opposition that in contributed to the ouster of Gachagua owing to their
numbers.
Gachagua’s foot soldiers, James Gakuyu
(Embakasi North) and Muranga senator Joe Nyutu have blamed the Orange party for
wrecking the Kenya Kwanza vote.
It is reported that the ouster of the
DP will be on the table and this may lead to a decision on the fate of Gachagua.
However, ODM officials were, however,
quick to delink the meeting from the ongoing political happenings, insisting it
will be purely a housekeeping retreat.
“We are just having a NEC retreat. We
are not discussing anything to do with local politics. It has nothing to do
with the current politics because it had been done much earlier, three months
ago.” ODM deputy Party leader Goeffrey
Osotsi
This is the first time Raila is
convening a party meeting since Gachagua’s impeachment process began.
