A Governor in the North
Rift region escaped death narrowly after a guard threatened to shoot him.
The Governor was
inspecting the projects on Tuesday when he encountered the incident.
ElgeyoMarakwet Governor
Alex Tolgos was threatened by a drunken forest guard.
The
incident happened in Chebororwa ward after he was confronted by a drunk officer
clad in civilian.
Tolgos
was visiting Takwei Primary school which is adjacent to the forest. The officer
warned the county boss not to set foot in the school.
The
officer hurled insults at the governor and threatened that he will shoot him.
He then disappeared and resurfaced while fully dressed in uniform with a G3
rifle.
To
the amazement of the residents, governor and his entourage, the officer cocked
his gun aiming at the governor.

Residents
started running helter-skelter but other forest guards wrestle the officer and
disarmed him.
Furious
Tolgos said the incident was unacceptable adding that he will raise the issue
with the Kenya Forest Service.
Locals
claimed the rangers were burning charcoal and engaging in illegal logging.
"The
drunk officer was perhaps irked by the presence of the government delegation
and most likely feared that their visit could expose their illegal
activities in the forests," said a resident.
