See Governor-led administration who want to purchase oldest building in Eldoret

There is a planned purchase of the National Bank building  by a county administration in North Rift region.

The administration is seeking to purchase the building at a cost of Sh568 million.

However Uasin Gishu County Assembly on Friday passed a motion to stop the planned purchase of the National Bank building by the Governor Jackson Mandago-led administration at a cost of Sh568 million.

The motion which was moved by the County Assembly Leader of Majority Josphat Lowoi saw most of the members support it.

The Assembly directed the Executive to instead use the Sh300 million already budgeted for to construct modern offices on existing county land.

"The county government should identify an appropriate piece of land belonging to the county for the construction, and the Controller of Budget should be informed so that no money meant for the purchase of the National Bank building is released," said Lowoi.

"No future budgeting should be done for the same," added the majority leader.

Uasin Gishu Deputy Speaker Hosea Korir while seconding the motion said there are legal issues surrounding the ownership of the National Bank land which could put taxpayers' money at risk.
